FROM A HOUSE TO A HOME  Restoration from Renovation

At 70×7 Life Recovery, we believe that true transformation starts from the inside out—and that includes the spaces people live in. As we continue our mission to support individuals reentering society after incarceration, we’re taking intentional steps to make our recovery houses feel like more than just a place to stay.

Emily DeYoung, owner of Spaces by DeYoung, recently brought her heart for design to two of our recovery homes; The Benson House, which currently houses four men in recovery; and Pearl’s House, which will soon house women and eventually women and their children.

“I believe our environment impacts mental health,” Emily says. “And I don’t just mean the world outside—I mean the home we live in.”

For many reentering society, regaining a sense of stability is the first step in rebuilding their lives. In our partnership with DeYoung, we are creating warm and comfortable spaces for these participants—turning basic houses into safe havens for healing

“It’s hard to heal in a place that feels cold or unsafe,” DeYoung explains. “If I can create a space that gives even a small sense of clarity or peace, that brings me joy.”

Our goal for these renovations isn’t just about paint colors or cozy furniture—it’s about dignity and second chances.

“Just because you make mistakes in life doesn’t mean that you are not deserving of a full life,” DeYoung says honestly. “You’ve done your time, you’ve paid your penance.”

Her message is clear: everyone deserves a fresh start.

“You don’t have to carry that weight forever,” she says. “If you intend to live a good life, then who’s to say your past defines you?”

That’s what these homes represent: new beginnings, second chances, and a place to start over. We’re proud to walk alongside our participants on their journey toward healing—and we are thankful for community partners like Spaces by DeYoung, who are helping us create spaces that feel like home.
